In my opinion, education in America
is going down the wrong path. The system is beginning to fail because the
standards of today's youth has plummeted. Graduation requirements for most high
schools are a shame. As well as most school districts are in massive debt which
is not helping the students. Furthermore high school drop outs are becoming
more prevalent everyday.
The
American student today is not held to the same academic standards as in the
past. Required classes for graduation are becoming lesser and lesser every year
it seems. Society seems to think that the new generation needs it easier. This
is not farther from the truth, I believe required classes should actually be
challenging and not stupefied. Just because of the fact that every student needs
to pass these classes, is no excuse for making that simple. The American
education system seems to losing control and cutting too much slack to
students.
Recently I
graduated high school and I was blown away by how easy it was to slide by. Most students by their sophomore year have
lost all motivation to keep up with their work. This wouldn't be that big of a
deal if the teachers and staff would crack down and make sure that the students
are actually learning. But once a student realizes a teacher doesn't care if
they are learning, but just passing, it changes the entire outlook of that
class for the student. They realize that the teacher doesn't care so why should
they care about school. So they stop doing their work, become a distraction,
and hinder other students besides themselves.
When a school district is in debt,
they cant provide a full education for their students. When a class needs books
or chemistry equipment, the teachers don't suffer, the students do. If they
don't have the necessary equipment for that class they miss out on the
opportunity of a full and rich education. Besides the fact of not having money
for supplies, the education system m is setting a bad example for students.
Money management is a important skill to have and the fact that school
districts are in debt, that shows you they really don't care for the students.
Dropouts
have always been a problem for the education system I'm sure. But there has to
be ways to cut down the amount. I knew a lot of people at my high school who
just decided that school wasn't for them. But they don't realize education is
extremely important. You need an education to succeed in today's society and
the fact that the schools are letting students drop out that easily, its sad.
The schools need to step up and take charge of this problem more than anything.
They are basically letting the students run them by not taking over the
situation of dropping out of high school.
Overall the American
education system needs to wake up and realize what is going on. This is all in
my opinion at least, from one high school in the middle of the woods.
Every body's experience is different with the education system of
